LEARN: Remedy Spotlight Fear

REMEDY SPOTLIGHT: TRANSFORMING FEAR

Dear Ones,

If you are curious about how to start using flower essences or vibrational remedies for personal healing and transformation, you are in the right place. Over the coming months I will be highlighting various common mental, emotional, and spiritual states we all find ourselves in from time to time, along with some of the remedies that can be helpful in making changes in those states. Remember that the worst that can happen if you choose the ‘“wrong” remedy is that the energy signature of the remedy will not elicit a shift in your human energy field, and nothing will occur. You cannot hurt yourself using vibrational remedies, there is no known toxic dose, and no documented contraindications. They are safe, gentle, and effective, and so I encourage you to experiment and notice what happens for you. If you haven’t already read done so, you might want to start with the guide, “Flower Remedies & Vibrational Preparations: The Basics” (July 19, 2022) in which I simply outline vibrational remedies, remedy selection, dosage, and education options.

MENTAL, EMOTIONAL, SPIRITUAL STATE: FEAR

There is a lot going on in the world right now and our systems can be influenced by the collective energy, whether we are experiencing distress first-hand, reading the news, or simply energetically sensitive to what is transpiring around us. If you are noticing fear showing up in your body, or signs that you may be reacting from a place of fear rather than one of grounded centeredness, it might benefit you to support your system in moving away from fear and into alignment with trust.

Fear can show up in may ways. How do you know you’re feeling fearful? A few signals might be:

  • Tension in the body (raised shoulders, gripping in the stomach, clenched jaw, etc.)

  • Rapid or shallow breathing

  • A “pit” or tightness in the center of your chest or belly

  • An inability to move forward or take action

  • Suppression of healthy anger or outbursts of rage

  • Sweats or chills

  • Loose bowels

REMEDIES FOR THE TRANSFORMATION FO FEAR

It would be a bit much to try to cover all of the 50+ individual remedy options for fear currently in the apothecary I maintain, so today we will be taking a brief look at some of the remedies that I find myself most often selecting for my self-care, my family, and my clients. There are a lot of remedies available for addressing specifics aspects and manifestations of fear, some of which are easily obtained at your local health food store (I’ve included some here) and others which you can order as stock directly from the producers or as treatment bottles through the Design Your Own + service I offer. Here, I will try to provide a few broad-spectrum remedies as well as some more focused options, when possible. I will save crisis and phobia remedies for another time.

Producer Abbreviations: AK, ED, FES, FF, HB, HI, NB, OW, WS (Full producer names can be found in The Apothecary+)
The producer abbreviation indicates the producer specific to the remedy/use I am highlighting. Multiple producers may use the same common name for different plant species or varieties. Therefore, noting the remedy producer is important for accurate remedy identification. In some instances botanically identical remedies are made by more than one producer (as noted). In these cases I’ve notices subtle energetic differences in the remedies. If you have access to more than one, I encourage you to drop-down and feel if any of them speak to you more than the other(s).

Angelica
(OW)
Angelica can be used when we feel isolated in our fear and anxieties, allowing us to accept support from the spirit realm and feel upheld by our own Divine nature.

Aspen (HB/NB)
Aspen is a broad-spectrum fear remedy in the Bach system and is used for the fears that cannot be named or defined. It is the anxiety or apprehension that leaves you searching for what might go wrong because you cannot put your finger on it, anxiety attacks “for no reason,” nightmares that wake you, a “creepy” feeling you cannot shake. It is a vague or unconscious fear. Aspen brings us confidence when meeting the unknown.

Black-Eyed Susan (FES)
A bright and sunny flower, Black-Eyed Susan can help those with intense fear of powerful emotions, especially ones they learned to deem “negative,” as well as deep emotions associated with traumatic events that may be repressed or avoided. This remedy allows us to consciously acknowledge and begin to process and release these powerful emotional messengers and can be an excellent support for conscious encounters when these things come to light in therapeutic settings.

Blue Star Formula (WS)
Blue Start Formula is the only formula I have chosen to include in this list. It is a beautiful remedy for when we find ourselves obsessing, behaving compulsively, or unable to take action due to our fear. Its action is “merging fear with love,” bringing about courage and the ability to move through fear into heart-centered action.

Cherry Plum (HB/NB)
This Bach system remedy is for the fear of loosing mental, emotional, or physical control and taking irrational, harmful action towards the self or others. It is the fear of one’s potential for unchecked destructive impulses. This remedy helps in easing our extreme stress by soothing the intensity and allowing trust in our Higher Self, expressing, and addressing feelings before the pressure builds to explosive levels.

Chrysanthemum (FES)
Chrysanthemum is one of the remedies that supports those who fear death, dying, and the aging process. It is the “midlife-crisis” remedy when the need for over-materialism (my possessions bring me attention and recognition - I am not fading away), grasping at youth, or attachment to an identity that is less mature and developed hinders us (as opposed to the “midlife-emergence” of powerful transformation, realization, and actualization of personal truths). Chrysanthemum helps us broaden our understanding of self and integrate the spiritual aspects of self, allowing contemplation and transcendence of our impermanence on Earth.

Rose Globemallow (ED)
Rose Globemallow is supportive of those who fear the worst (abuse, victimization, etc.), expect things to go wrong, and live self-guarded and self-limited. It can be especially helpful for survivors of sexual abuse. This essence endows a soft feminine energy, is clear, calm, graceful and allows us to identify, process, and release patterns of disfunction in order to become strong, self-reliant, spunky, self-assure, and playful. Rose Globemallow brings us the bright and beautiful confidence to release our darkness.

Iona Pennywort (FF)
This beautiful essence helps us live with transparency, no longer in fear of examining or revealing our shadow selves. Problems we hide, cover-up, or deny grow and have power over us in the forms of shame, guilt, fear, and self-judgement, and cloud our perception of truth. Iona Pennywort frees us from this trap so that we may have awareness and discernment, integrate our shadow selves, and live in the light of truth.

Mimulus/Monkeyflower (HB/NB/FF)
Mimulus is a Bach system and Findhorn remedy (Monkeyflower) supporting transformation of fear on a broad spectrum. It is for the fear of things you can name, a fear you are aware of (spiders, heights, CoVid-19), but does not register at the phobia level. Mimulus folks are often shy, overcautious, worry about everyday things (traffic, grades, etc.), and suffer from nervous tension. Mimulus acts to bring calm and courage.

Splendid Palm (HI)
Splendid Palm supports those who learned fear and shame around sensual pleasure and exploration. It gifts us the ability to discover or rediscover freedom, healthy responsibility, and a playful innocence of our bodies and pleasurable sensual experience.

Yellow Violet (AK)
Yellow Violet supports us when we are fearful of speaking out and being heard for fear of being poorly judged or derided, so that we can use our voices with confidence, especially around challenging or controversial issues that need to be named.

PREPARING & USING YOUR REMEDY

Once you have identified the remedy or remedies you wish to use or blend into a formula you can either take them directly as indicated on the stock bottle (as they are sold in retail settings) or extend the life of your supply by creating a dosage or treatment bottle for yourself (what you will receive from a practitioner). There are may resources online and in print for how to make a dosage or treatment bottle. Most are based upon the work of Dr. Edward Bach, a physician who promoted the healing power of flower remedies in the early 1900s, and wished to make them as available and accessible as possible. There are dosage variations one can explore, preservation method options, suggestions for how to select remedies for formulas, instructions for further potentizing remedies and more, available through multiple sources. I can discuss some of these further in future and/or you can refer to the detailed information I offer in the FAQ sections of Remedy Consultations here and Design Your Own here.

Creating a Dosage/Treatment Bottle - Bach method:

  • 2 drops of each individual remedy in a clean 1 fl.oz./30 ml. dropper bottle (maximum of 7 individual remedies, usually fewer).

  • A minimum of 5 milliliters of brandy (or other high-proof drinking alcohol) as preservative. I primarily use local, Demeter® Certified Biodynamic® brandy for this purpose (for non-alcohol sensitive individuals).

  • The remainder of the 30ml volume filled with living spring water or purified water.

Taking Your Remedy/One Cycle - Bach method:

  • 4 drops from your treatment bottle (or 2 drops of pure stock remedy)

  • 4 times a day (typically morning, noon, afternoon, night)

  • 4 weeks duration (approximately)

Reevaluate or Repeat
This cycle is typically repeated a minimum of three times in order to effect more lasting change (especially for long-held patterns). Due to the “onion-peeling” effect of remedies, you may in future find yourself revisiting a remedy you thought “completed.” This is   normal. Some individuals find it useful to reevaluate their remedy selection after each cycle and make minor adjustments as necessary. Others feel ready to discontinue the remedy before completing three full cycles. Each individual is unique and you know yourself best.

More details about options for how to take your remedy are available online in “Flower Remedies & Vibrational Preparations: The Basics” (July 19, 2022)

My hope is that this little guide gives you useful tools to manage and transform some of the fears you may experience now or in the future, and perhaps act as a leaping off point for those of you interested in taking a deeper dive on your own or with me. Online, in the Community Apothecary Catalog +, I provide links to the references and remedy producers I use and trust, should you wish to start exploring other remedies there. If none of the remedies I’ve touched upon today feel quite right for you, know that there are many others available with the specific action of transforming various fear states. Trust yourself and keep searching until you find the one that speaks to you.

May you transform your fear with grace and ease.

I Bid You Peace,
Natalia
